Dr. Achilles Ploumidis graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens (UOA) and specialized at the “Asklepeion Voulas” General Hospital (General
Surgery & Urology). During his residency he was trained in Pediatric Urology at the Children's Hospital "Aghia Sophia" and in Gynecology at the General Hospital of Athens "G. Gennimatas".

He graduated from the two-year postgraduate program (MSc): "Minimally Invasive Surgery, Robotic Surgery and Telesurgery" of the UOA with "Excellent" grade. In 2013 he successfully defended his thesis and received his Doctorate (PhD) degree from the UOA with "Excellent".
He was trained at the University Oncology Center "Karolinska Institutet" of Sweden in robotic surgery with scholarship from the Hellenic Urological Association after written exams. There he specialized in robotic surgery of the lower urinary tract (prostate, bladder, pelvic lymph nodes) under the supervision of Prof. Peter Wiklund, and was involved in clinical research for prostate cancer. He was further trained in robotic surgery of the upper urinary tract (kidney, ureter) and Urogynecology at OLV Vattikuti Robotic Surgery Institute in Belgium, under the supervision of Prof. Alexander Mottrie, with a scholarship from the European Robotic Urological Association (ERUS). At the same time he published papers in the field of urogynecology and single site robotic surgery. During his fellowship he was also an instructor in robotic and laparoscopic surgery at ORSI Robotic Training Center, a position that he holds until today.

He completed a fellowship program in Endourology at the Tenon Hospital, Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris with a scholarship from the European Society of Urology (EAU), under the supervision of Prof. Olivier Traxer. During his training he published on upper tract urothelial carcinoma, stone management and
retrograde intrarenal surgery He has visited, the Urology Department of the University of Ghent and the "Sava Perovic Foundation" in Belgrade, in order to gain more experience in Pediatric Urology and in the field of genital and urethral reconstructive surgery. He is instructor in many hands-on- training courses in robotic surgery (International Workshop in Robotic Surgery for Southeastern Europe, EAU annual
congress). He teaches at the Medical School of the UOA in the postgraduate program "Minimum Invasive Surgery, Robotic Surgery and Telesurgery" and is responsible for the hands-on- training of residents in robotic surgery. He participated as faculty and trainer in the first hands on training course in Europe in Robotic Pediatric Urology that took place in ORSI Training Center in Belgium. Since 2013 he is invited
every year as an instructor in the hands-on- training courses in flexible ureteroscopy at the European Urology Residents Education Program (EUREP). He has been invited abroad (Cyprus and Romania) in deferent hospitals as a proctor in robotic surgery in order to lunch and establish a robotic program in Urology.

He has been honored with best paper award at the Annual European Congress of Urology (EAU) for his clinical research in prostate cancer (28 th Annual EAU
Congress, Milan 2013). He has also received best paper award from the European Society of Robotic Surgery (ERUS) for comparing robotic and open surgery (Junior
European Robotic Urologic Symposium – ERUS 2011). In 2016, during the EAU Section of Genito-Urinary Reconstructive Surgery (ESGURS) he was honored with the first prize for his video presentation. In 2017 he invited from the European Association of Urology to participate in the “Challenge the Experts” competition in Davos and was awarded with the second prize from an academic board of the European Association of Urology.

He is Fellow of the European Board of Urology (FEBU) and he is a member of the Young Academic Urologists of the European Association of Urology in robotic
surgery. He is also a board member of the Greek Society for Reproductive Medicine since 2014. He is a founding member of the PETRA (Progress in Endourology
Technology and Research Association) group. He has published articles in international (30) and Greek (2) medical journals with high impact factor while he has authored chapters in international textbooks on robotic surgery. He is a reviewer in (7) international scientific journals. He actively
continues his research activities in collaboration with foreign and Greek universities.
